UNISEL Walk of Hope: Save Somalia, Save the Children is a walkathon charity event where we aim to increase the existing awareness of the famine crisis in Somalia and raise donations as to help to Somali children who are in need of humanitarian assistance.
Somalia, one of the countries in Africa is in the grips with one of the worst food crises in the world today. Some say it's the worst famine in 60 years. Across Somalia, more than 3.7 million people (half of the entire population) are in desperate need of humanitarian assistance.
Famine was officially declared in two regions of southern Somalia since the famine in the Somali region of Ethiopia in
2000. This declaration of famine confirms it is the worst humanitarian crisis in the world now.
As part of the society who is concerned over the crisis, the Faculty of Communication and Media, Universiti Selangor (FCM, UNISEL) has decided to organize a walk-a-thon charity event in hope to increase the exisiting awareness of the famine crisis in Somalia and as to raise donations to help the Somali children who are in a desperate need of humanitarian assistance.
